publishing update

createspace.com: I sent another message on Sunday, asking why they hadn’t responded to my previous message from eight days before, asking why they hadn’t sent my proof copy, which I’d ordered two weeks before that. I got back an automated response (about 12 times) saying, “Hi, I’m an automated response, and I’ll refer this to somebody who will look into it for you.” Then, on Monday, I got a notification that my proof copy had been shipped. Later on Monday, I got a email saying, “In order to make up for the inconvenience, we have changed your requested shipping method to a different one, one which will make it very unlikely that you’ll ever be able to receive the package we just sent you. Have a nice day.”

lulu.com: As I said, I uploaded the files over the weekend and requested the proof copy. It was made on Monday, shipped on Monday night (the way I requested), and it arrived yesterday. So, lulu.com managed to do more in two days than createspace.com has done in three weeks.

Oh, and the proof copy is really cool. It needs some work (the left and right margins might need adjusting, it doesn’t have its real cover yet, there are some widow and orphan issues to deal with, etc.), but it’s really cool, and I actually have it in my hand, which is better than having it whiz past my house for the next three days without ever landing.
