{"id":5684,"date":"2015-11-03T00:28:59","date_gmt":"2015-11-03T04:28:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/u-town.com\/collins\/?p=5684"},"modified":"2015-11-03T00:28:59","modified_gmt":"2015-11-03T04:28:59","slug":"back-on-schedule","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/u-town.com\/collins\/?p=5684","title":{"rendered":"back on &#8220;schedule&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ooops, I think I missed a regularly scheduled blog post, which was not easy to do, since I don&#8217;t have a regular schedule.<\/p>\n<p>So, here&#8217;s some interesting stuff:<\/p>\n<p>1) I saw this article at the AV Club website: &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.avclub.com\/article\/stephen-king-justified-hating-kubricks-vision-shin-226309\" target=\"_blank\">Is Stephen King justified in hating Kubrick\u2019s vision for<em>\u00a0The Shining<\/em>?<\/a>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p>It reminded me of <a href=\"https:\/\/u-town.com\/collins\/?p=5058\">this blog post<\/a>, where I described my idea of how to adapt a book for a movie (in brief: throw out the book and make a good movie). Which is obviously what Kubrick did.<\/p>\n<p>After all, Shakespeare did a lot of violence to his sources, too, on his way to writing some pretty good plays.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; <br \/>2) Also from the AV Club: &#8220;<a href=\"ttp:\/\/www.avclub.com\/review\/mulholland-dr-defined-modern-puzzle-box-movie-227497\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Mulholland Dr.<\/em>\u00a0defined the modern puzzle-box movie<\/a>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p>I have my theories about <em>Mulholland Dr.<\/em>, but no theories about it are &#8220;true,&#8221; because the movie doesn&#8217;t offer answers. Which is fine.<\/p>\n<p>Worth seeing (and then you may well want to see it again). <\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/KzdNrWmAV0E?rel=0\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em>Mulholland Dr.<\/em> is also an illustration of what a vital factor random chance can be, since it was intended to be the first episode of a TV show, then the show fell through, Lynch got some more money, and figured out how to shoot new scenes to make a movie out of it. <\/p>\n<p>It came to him, he has said, one day when he was drinking a milkshake at his favorite coffee shop. In a flash, he knew how to take all the footage he had and make it all work.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; <br \/>3) I&#8217;m still very happy with &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/u-town.com\/collins\/?p=5460\">A Princess in U-town<\/a>,&#8221; though I am a little disappointed that I couldn&#8217;t work the phrase &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Letters_patent\" target=\"_blank\">letters patent<\/a>&#8221; in there somehow. I tried, but it would have been awkward.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; <br \/>4) In point #3 up there, I started by saying I was &#8220;pretty happy&#8221; with the story, but then I remembered a recent post over at Maggie&#8217;s blog called &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/maasmith.com\/2015\/10\/27\/weak-language\/\" target=\"_blank\">Weak Language<\/a>,&#8221; and I decided to own up and admit that I&#8217;m <em>very<\/em> happy with the story. Which I am.<\/p>\n<p>Not writing anything right now, but I may well go back to &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/u-town.com\/collins\/?p=4862\">It was a dark and stormy night&#8230;<\/a>&#8221; (or whatever it ends up being called).
