a blog (or two), but not a b***k

I wrote something about cut-ups here, and something about the scenes I'm posting here.

I solved the question of why the customization of the utownwriting.com blog was always changing back to the default whenever I upgraded the blog software, whereas this one always stayed the same (with the customization, like the list of characters down the right side). The utownwriting.com blog is using the default "theme," but I've customized it quite a bit, and will do more as I go along. The font at the top was originally italic, the list of links down the right side was different, and I added the copyright and other information at the bottom.

And all of those things kept changing back.

Then I figured it out. I was modifying "Classic," which is one of the stock themes, and those come with WordPress when you install it, So, every new version of the software reinstalled them, wiping out my changes. On the other hand, this blog uses Blixed-10, which is a theme I downloaded, and WordPress leaves those alone when you upgrade, since they are not part of the standard package.

So, I copied the "Classic" theme to a new directory (called "Classical") and changed the setting to the new one. Now we'll see how it goes when I upgrade the next time.

Increasingly, the structure of the utownwriting.com blog will be customized, the links hard-coded, and the "blogish" things like the list of recent entries and the links at the bottom of the entries (always to the next and previous ones in chronological order) will be changed to more logical links (to the next part of the particular story, for example).

All things in time, of course.

Even if I can make this all work, though, it will not be a "blook." I was mentioning this idea (having a whole novel in a blog), and someone mentioned the word "blook." I looked it up here, out of curiosity, but I am not going to use it.

The main reason is that it's an ugly word. So is "blog," but that at least has the virtue of being generally understood. "Blook" has no virtues at all, as far as I can tell. Even the examples cited in wikipedia don't really correspond to what I'm doing, since some of them are blogs which turned into books, and all of them seem to be non-fiction.
