One problem with the mystery stories has been that they are not as easy to print as the novels were. Each chapter of A Sane Woman and U-town is in complete in a single file, well-suited to printing. The third novel comes in shorter chunks, more like blog posts, but there is also a way of bringing up each chapter in a file.

So, I decided to figure out how to set up the mystery stories to be more easily printable, with each story complete in a single file. It is complex, since WordPress puts everything in a database, so I needed to figure out how to get the text back out of the database, because if I had separate printable files and then I found a typo (hard to imagine, I know, but it’s important to plan for the unexpected), I’d have to fix it in two different places.

Also, I had to figure out how to get the text of each part without the “this story began here” link at the top, and without the navigation links at the bottom.

I’m nearly there, at least with the first story, so I’ll let you know. And meanwhile, there are two new parts of The College Murder Case.
