On a friend's LiveJournal recently, she said, "Go to this random quote generator (http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3). Click "refresh" until you find five quotes that mean something to you, that speak to you or about you or simply resonate with you. Post them."

Below is what I came up with. This is somewhat different from the list I posted on her LiveJournal, these are the ones which related most specifically (though not always most directly) to the novels:

It is dangerous to be right when the government is wrong.
-- Voltaire

Somebody has to do something, and it's just incredibly pathetic that it has to be us.
-- Jerry Garcia

Your life story would not make a good book. Don't even try.
-- Fran Lebowitz

All great truths begin as blasphemies.
-- George Bernard Shaw

In the U.S. you have to be a deviant or exist in extreme boredom... Make no mistake, all intellectuals are deviants in the U.S.
-- William S. Burroughs

They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself.
-- Andy Warhol

An artist is somebody who produces things that people don't need to have but that he -- for some reason -- thinks it would be a good idea to give them.
-- Andy Warhol

[I]f you say that artists take 'risks' it's insulting to the men who landed on D-Day, to stuntmen, to baby-sitters, to Evel Knievel, to stepdaughters, to coal miners, and to hitch-hikers, because they're the ones who really know what 'risks' are.
-- Andy Warhol

Mr. and Mrs. Smith get married, they have problems, they get back together, and they live happily ever after. End of the movie. Two weeks later, he kills her, grinds her body up, feeds it to his girlfriend, who dies of ptomaine poisoning, and her husband is prosecuted and sent to the electric chair for it -- but here’s our little story with a happy ending. What is an ending? There’s no such thing. Death is the only ending.
-- Robert Altman
